Beautiful explication of the potential value of Suda's experiments. With our new methods of neural manipulation (optogenetics, new anesthetics, etc.) , it would be fascinating to see experiments done to find the minimum manipulations necessary to eliminate natural rhythms after rewarming. I think we might be able to get closer to answers to your excellent questions around their relation to engram storage and retrieval. At least constrain the search space further.
